The Hardest Part

I have been talking with a friend recently and it has made me think about being a teacher in a tough school. I have been thinking about what the most difficult part of this job is. The hardest part is knowing how successful your students can be and seeing them not succeed.

The hardest part is knowing that no matter what you do, it just won’t fix all the problems. You cannot do everything. It is a difficult lesson to learn and one that won’t, no matter how many times you tell yourself it’s true, stop you from sabotaging your own happiness to fix the world.

You smile for the kids who will do fine in life no matter what you do, you bust you butt for the kids who need you, and you pray continuously for the ones that no matter what you do you can’t fix.
