The Black Spot

I am standing at the front of the room, giving directions for my students on a math assignment. That’s when it happened. My student who loves going to the nurse stands up and calmly tells me that she must see the nurse immediately because her cut is turning black. 

She points to a black circle on her leg. It is about a half inch around and a perfectly round mark… That was clearly drawn with sharpie.

My first instinct was to laugh and ask her how stupid she really thought I was. Second instinct said I should kick my finger and smear the black market down her leg. I did neither. 

I told her she had drawn on herself with marker and that she needed to go sit down and do her work. She claimed that it wasn’t marker because I had already taken her marker away for drawing on herself earlier in the week.

Phantom Lice

I have had them before and I have them again… Phantom Lice. This morning one of mine came up and said, “in about an hour, I need to go to the nurse because my grandma thinks I have lice.” 

I said, “how about you go now…” 

Now I have phantom lice and cannot stop itching my head. I scratched all day today. I am 99.99% sure I do not have actual lice in my hair but I think I will have the nurse check tomorrow morning anyway.
